Creative Blocks

As artists, it seems we are always playing tag with blockages. I managed to evade it for a few months but currently I was tagged and now I'm it. This happens to me every once in a while and usually my fix is to focus on other things pertaining to my art like learning about the business side, or learning more about my equipment. Unfortunately those are not helping me right now. This is like the weirdest block ever because I can go through my library, find something sick or develop some sick idea but when it comes time for me to sit down and put it together, nothing seems right :(. I do have some large weight on my shoulders though because I have been window shopping for new gear and I know that is really affecting my mindset in using what I have. I'm trying to get proactive and shake it off today though. I have a moderately free day so I am going to force myself to make something. We'll see how it goes, but I do want to know to, what do you guys out there do to break the block? Maybe some suggestions might help me now or in the future.

First Review!!

Soooo I joined CrateKings a while ago and sought out a member there who had a blog featuring reviews and such from various artists. I took a chance and sent him a link to my project, and he actually really liked it! Big up to Figment at html://www.StrictlyIndependant.blogspot.com. He actually said to me "Your sound is incredible. Like a futuristic hybrid of Q-Tip, Pete Rock and Madlib".

Can you imagine lol?! I don't think I am even qualified to blast the dust out the crevices on Pete Rocks MPC 2000xl with compressed air.

Anyway lol, here is the link to the review, and also, be sure to dig around on his site. You may find some other artists that you might be interested in.

DJ Cam-One

So I wanted to talk about DJ Cam-One. He's one of the producers I really like. I find there is a certain quality about the sounds he uses. I don't know if it is achieved during the mixing or mastering stage, but all I can say is he can really create a vibe with his music that you don't generally find with beats now a days. I'm sure using vinyl has something to do with it though ;). They have a certain...depth, I dunno how to explain, just listen...

If he is in your area, opening for someone or doing his own show, whatever, make sure you go see him. I definitely will be :)

It's a lazy afternoon...

Okay maybe not lol. Sorry Minnie Riperton, but The Roots have kind of been the soundtrack to the last few days in my life. I love really taking in every morsel from an emcees mouth and when they are real wordsmiths like Black Thought, Dice Raw and Malik B, trying to process everything... it really makes you freak out and have to like start the song over. It was sunny on Wednesday and I went to go look for some 7b pencils. Windows down just enough so the wind doesn't mess up my bangs but I still had a nice breeze coming through the whip, blasting "Clones" (M.A.R.S.' verse was so super heavy), "Episodes", "Dynamite", "Distortion to Static", "It Just Don't Stop"(oh my goodness, the bassline!)....le sigh lol, it was perfection.

The reason I was hunting down those lovely, soft, writing instruments is I've been bitten by the craft bug lately lol. I have an itch to start drawing again. I've been thinking about some cool stuff I wanted to feature on here in the future and would really like to get started designing. I didn't find them at the stores I checked, but I was able to get some glue and start working on a Pepakura model I am building. It's my first one lol, and it's pretty cool. I took some pictures of all the pieces cut out and a few completed pieces, but they are still on the camera '-_-. I think I will get those up on Saturday night. I'm almost done too and I will take some pictures of the completed model as well, although I am planning to resin, fiberglass and paint it in the future. I came across some Halo fans who actually do that and replicate their armor. Sugoi!

Anyway I really should be sleeping by now. Tomorrow morning is going to kick my butt. I have to get up and help Mr. SubTronik with some work. lol I told him I would just refer to him as Gun Cannon so as to keep with the Gundam theme. He just laughed, but I think it fits.

My First Born..

Ok so I have finally released a mixtape with some of my remixes. It is very, very, VERY raw aka I made it on the most basic of equipment, our mic is crappy lol, and I don't know that much about mixing/mastering YET. I hope you guys enjoy it, it means a lot to me as it is the first wide spread example of my artistry.

I have another project in the works with the emcee on the mixtape Seiko who is the other half of Lovers Anonymous. It will be legit though with better equipment lol. Stay tuned for updates on that.

This is the link for the mixtape, enjoy!
